A s early as in 1982, a team of dedicated persons of Guwahati thought of starting English medium school under the Affiliation of central Board of Secondary Education from class I to class XII with the aim of harmonious development of the child and blending them in all modern creative thoughts of education. Late Bidya Dhar Sarma, retired Education officer of C.B.S.E. was the main initiating force. His meeting with Late Indira Miri, Mrs. Renuka Devi Borkataki and Late Pankaj Dhar Barua, men of resources, Philanthropists and lovers of Education solved the problem of starting an English medium school in the city.

T hus in February, 1982, the Guwahati Public School, one of the wings of the 'Assam Adarsha Vidyalaya Sanstha' registered under Registration of Societies Act XXI of 1960 (No.1449 of 1981-82) was started in a rented House at Bamunimaidam, Guwahati with Late B.D. Sarma as its Principal. The school was subsequently shifted to its permanent site at Panjabari within greater Guwahati city on a Hill top surrounded by the ever green forests and scenic beauty of hilly-ranges aloof from the din and bustle of the city. The location of the school besides natural beauties provides desired educational environment.

T he School provides two Mega R.C.C. buildings on a plot of land of 5 (five) acres for class rooms, Library, Laboratories, Staff rooms and office rooms. The patronage of the philanthropist of the city made the institution flourish from strength to strength in all dimensions. Due to its meritorious results and numerous activities for all round development of personality, its enrollment touches thousand by now.

The school by virtue of its status and position succeeded to secure affiliation of C.B.S.E. early in 1988 to Secondary Education and senior Secondary Education in 1992.


Spacious class rooms are available for intensive coaching, sections are opened to cope with the increasing number of the students and every section is put under the qualified and experienced teachers.


Well equipped laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and IP are setup in spacious rooms with modern equipments conducting practicals for the students of science stream.


The Library of the school is housed in a big room on the Ist floor of the Front Building with comtortabie sitting Capacity of SIxty students and chamber for the Librarian. The Library at present has more than 10 thousand books and it has been increasing year by year. Apart from this important journals and newspapers are subscribed regularly to the students and the teachers.


Keeping in mind of wide spread computerisation in every field of modern scientific age, computer cducation has been included in the school curriculum from I to VIII. The broad aim of the programme is to prepare the students for full exploitation of the potential of computers. Audio Visual education.


There are at present eight Buses plying from different corners of the city to pick up students from homes to school and back. They are also used for excursions of the students,


To promote a healthy corporate life among students and to afford opportunities for their all- round development on inner faculties. Various Co-curncular activities are provided in the class routines such as music. fine arts, crafts, sports etc. Besides on the eve of Annual Day, Competitions in cultural activities, sports, debating, seminars are organised among the students under the guidance of competent teachers and prizes are awarded to the winners in the "Annual Day". Organisation of Exhibitions of crafts, Science and paintings are the regular feature of the co- curricular activities.
